The building designed was to be the first ever "Museum of Energy", located in Exposition Park, Los Angeles. The program called for the display of several key artifacts from the past and emerging present of energy technologies. These objects were used as markers along several possible trajectories though the museum, and informed not only the paths through the space, but the final form. The location of the proposed museum also proved instrumental in shaping the final form, as Exposition Park sits along the historic dividing line between the two grids of Los Angeles. As a result the final form was not only informed from objects on display, but from an attempt to articulate the hidden history of Los Angeles.

The site also proved instrumental in shaping form, as Exposition Park sits along the historic dividing line between the two grids of Los Angeles.

As a result the final form was not only informed from objects on display, but from an attempt to articulate and straddle the hidden history of Los Angeles
